Expressive Art Journaling for Self-Care and Fun! Art Journal Your Archetypes

Art Journaling: Personal and Universal Archetypes

Archetypes are universal symbols/metaphors that influence or shape our experience. Jung called them “inherited thought patterns”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archetype

In this next expressive art workshop, we will explore who we are in relation to archetypes.
If you enjoy storytelling, myth, and art, you will enjoy creating an archetypal art journal spread!
Have you been feeling like an angel, queen, a fool, the giving mother, the martyr,
the survivor, the warrior, the traveler, or the gypsy?
What about a wizard, goddess, Native American archetype? Characters from fairytales, history, literature? The list goes on and on.

Have fun exploring those themes by simply printing an image of an archetype to bring, or print an image of yourself to transform on a journal page.
Personal archetypes are the ones you create. Make one up! Or, no clue?
Just come anyway and receive a journal to play and explore in or bring your journal from a previous class and receive five dollar discount for this class.
You can find the most amazing vintage images online and just print a couple options for class. Whether you are relating to a queen or a fool, you can learn from your archetype.
The above is an image that I found of the Queen Artemesia who was a warrior for the Persian people.
I can change her into a warrior for peace, environment or however I can.
I can paint on the sealed printed image, add words, etc. Here is the photo. I can google wise woman and have a lovely mature wise woman image. The sky is the limit people!

Peace and Coziness

I don’t know about you but I am definitely wanting a little peace and coziness this time of year so I can catch up on some reading.

I cherish a delicious novel and have one I have started but think I will share some books that are non-fiction and related to my work as an art therapist.

There are some fantastic books out there on healing arts, art therapy, authentic art expression, and the list goes on.  Right now I am very interested in authentic movement guiding the art process so one of the books I am reading is Imagination in Action written by art therapist Shaun Mcniff!  He uses mindfulness to slow down and be in the moment while not judging the physical acts of movement and creating.

Mindfulness and the Arts Therapies also uses this moment to moment mind, body, spirit connecting to bring about creative awareness! I am in awe of these methods and have started using them in my workshops.unnamed-3.jpg

If you are an art therapist or work with these methods as an artist leave a comment so we can have a conversation.  The other books on this list are equally enlightening but won’t go on anymore as you can look them up for yourselves if interested and on a journey to trust the process in your spiritual path through the healing arts.
