What can I say, at the end of the day my passion beyond painting music is playing music with friends and dancing to it. I love playing my djembe, cajon and my new acoustic bass guitar! My love for music can be seen in many of my paintings over the years.
Check out this video link to many of my paintings inspired by music!
So every year in our backwoods just before Spring,
the leaves of our Pignut Hickory tree unfold as if they are flowers! The new leaves appear pink before fully opening and turning green! This is so fascinating to me. Below I have documented the photo of the event. Above is my original painting of it. This Pignut Hickory Tree is native to Florida so I also included the native Zebra butterfly.
A Day in the LIfe is my latest painting based on a lovely banana bloom I once witnessed while eating ice cream in New Smyrna Beach under this tree. Years later while painting it, I went to the kitchen to see a red rat snake peeking out from behind our refridgerator! So, the snake is now in the painting!
Hi guys, just wanted to share some of the work I have been doing.
As a professional artist, I have exhibited in galleries, shows and a couple of museums.
I enjoy creating large and small paintings that are highly. detailed high end work for special exhibits. I also enjoy creating quicker fun studies that are more affordable for many people. For quite awhile I struggled to understand my need to create both. While I labor for many weeks or months or over some of my work that is especially made for galleries or other exhibits I also create quicker smaller paintings that are more affordable. Enter Etsy! I have been able to do just this here. I have enjoyed selling 15 paintings on Etsy of far.
This little 9 x 12 acrylic painting is titled Leaf Love. It is ready to hang with painted gallery wrapped edges. It is a good example of a small affordable painting I just created for sale on my Etsy Store where you can shop at Lauraspaintbrush
I have a coupon code for free shipping here so just plug it in at purchase time springgifttoyou16 offer ends May 14th, 2016
So, now a little on the process or the art of creating art!
For this particular piece, I first played with colors that attracted me. Reds, iron oxide, yellow ochre. Once I had a fun background I found some blue greens that were complimenting the colors and added them along with a little colored tissue paper. The leaf study came from the curve of a plant in my yard. Nature is always a constant inspiration for me even in a modern painting. The contrasting black and whites came after I drew out the vine.
A little about movement. I love to show a line here or there that moves around the canvas to suggest movement. It can be a brush stroke or line to enhance the painting.
Swimming in the springs in Florida can be a beautiful or terrifying experience. People have died who have swam to deep in a cave, drowned for different reasons and there have been alligators who killed swimmers.
The springs, like the oceans have wild animals and it is a risk we take to go into their home. Millions of people swim every day in springs and oceans and the numbers of deaths from animal attacks is still low compared to accidental drownings. It is sad, no matter how a person dies in the water.
Today I have heard about the first case (that I am aware of) of a death of a diver caused by an alligator in Blue Springs where I swim frequently. He swam there for 20 years! Just horrible. Not sure why all of a sudden an alligator (cold blooded) would leave the necessary warm waters of the river and venture to the cool springs but it happened. So sad. Prayers to the victim’s family.
